Glaciers provide some of the most amazing and breathtaking scenery in all Creation. Many people have visited one of the famous Glaciers of the world, only to find themselves with a life long love and fascination with these majestic ice formations. If you are blessed to have the opportunity to travel to see one of the worlds great glaciers, it will be an experience you will never forget.

To give you an idea of some of the incredible glaciers you can learn about and visit, I have listed here a few of the most famous ones. I have included some basic information on each glacier along with a link to its own page where it is covered in much more depth. This will give you a quick overview of the more well known glaciers of the world and their locations as well as an opportunity to do further exploration.

The Portage Glacier- An Alaskan glacier close to the town of Whittier. This is a very popular vacation spot, not only because of the glacier itself, but because of the stunning scenery of the surrounding area. Though the glacier itself is receding or melting at a fairly rapid rate it still offers some spectacular sights and experiences.

The Hubbard Glacier- Another Alaskan glacier and a magnificent one as well. Unlike a lot of the glaciers of the world that are melting, the Hubbard is actually getting bigger and is now the largest tidewater glacier in North America.

The Fox Glacier- The Fox can be found in the country of New Zealand in the southern Alps mountains. Unlike most glaciers of the world that are retreating(melting), the Fox Glacier is advancing(moving forward) at more than three feet per day. That's faster than any other advancing glacier in the world!

The Franz Josef Glacier- Close to the Fox Glacier in New Zealand. A beautiful area to visit with much to see and do. One of it's more astounding features is that it borders a temperate rain forest!

The Mendenhall Glacier- Near the capitol city of Juneau, Alaska. Its about 12 miles long and can be visited any time of the year. Temperatures are milder and opportunities to see wildlife abundant near this glacier.

The Athabasca Glacier- Located in the Rocky Mountains of Canada near the province of Alberta. Guided ice walks with views of ice falls are available on this wonderful glacier. It gets more visitors than any other glacier in North America.

The Columbia Glacier- A tidewater glacier In Prince William Sound on the southern coast of Alaska. The fastest moving glacier known and one that displays magnificent icebergs breaking off and falling into the ocean below it.
